Lombok's Hidden Gem: A Day at Pantai Ketapang Tampes Indonesia's pristine beaches had always called to me, and with anticipation finally boiling over, I found myself at Pantai Ketapang Tampes on Lombok's east coast. As I stepped out of the car, the fresh sea breeze wrapped around me, whispering secrets through the swaying palms. The rhythmic crash of waves against the shore was a symphony that promised paradise. Scattered like little seaside secrets, a line of shacks beckoned closer. Curiosity pulling me in, I began exploring, encountering smiles and warm welcomes from the friendly locals. Among them, a middle-aged woman, eyes crinkling at the corners, asked if I'd tried the famed "sate ikan" - their local seafood delight. Her infectious enthusiasm was undeniable, and I knew I had to delve into this culinary adventure. She led me to a rustic food cart, where the aroma of charcoal-kissed fish hung heavy in the air. Skewers glistened, promises of smoky-sweet goodness waiting to be devoured. One bite, and my palate erupted in a joyous dance. The fish, perfectly grilled, yielded to the slightest touch, while the tangy-spicy peanut sauce added a playful kick. It was, without a doubt, the most exquisite bite I'd ever experienced. As I savored the sate ikan, the wind picked up, whipping the waves into a playful frenzy. But the locals, unfazed, continued their conversations, their laughter echoing on the breeze. "Just Sumatra's rhythm," they explained, eyes sparkling with familiarity. Hours melted away amidst stories of culture, traditions, and a deep love for the sea. Their pride in their heritage was palpable, their connection to this place evident in every word. The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues. It was time to say goodbye, but not without promises of a return. Pantai Ketapang Tampes, with its sun-kissed skin and wind-tousled charm, had woven itself into my being. More than just a beach, it was a window into a warm and welcoming community, a place where culinary dreams met stories whispered by the sea. This was a memory, not just etched in sand, but tattooed on my soul.

The beach has returned to its usual state after the earthquake, and vendors have resumed selling their goods. My personal favorite is the sate ikan.

The food was amazing! The satay and pepes were absolutely delicious. It was such a treat to enjoy tasty and affordable meals right by the beach. We only spent around 120k for four people, which included 5 small pepes, 26 satays, 4 servings of rice, 6 drinks, and 1 smoked fish.
